IN THIS LESSON

This section shows how to set up your phone to make a podcast. It works with iPhones and some Android phones that have a "Cinematic" video mode.

Step 1: Open the Camera App

  • Launch the Camera app.

  • Swipe to Cinematic mode.

Step 2: Record Your Video

  • Tap the red record button to film your video.

  • Cinematic mode automatically applies a shallow depth of field, but you’ll fine-tune it in editing.

Step 3: Open the Video in Photos

  • After recording, go to the Photos app.

  • Tap on your cinematic video to open it.

Step 4: Tap “Edit”

  • In the top-right corner, tap Edit to open video editing tools.

Step 5: Adjust the f-Number

  • You’ll see an f-number icon (ƒ)—tap it.

  • A slider will appear to control the aperture.

Step 6: Slide to Adjust Depth of Field

  • Lower f-number (e.g., ƒ/2.0) = More background blur

  • Higher f-number (e.g., ƒ/16) = Less background blur

  • Adjust until you get the cinematic look you want.

Step 7: Save Your Changes

  • Tap Done in the bottom-right to save the edited video.
